The vast majority of fishing is done from a boat, so it’s no surprise to see a number of new boating accessories unveiled at the 2016 ICAST show in Orlando. Here are five new items that made a strong impression with judges in the annual ICAST Best of Show Awards.
Scepter Marine 3 gallon/6 gallon portable fuel tank
MSRP: $ 49/$59
Scepter Marine’s new 3 & 6 gallon portable fuel tanks feature advanced styling and a highly functional, low profile design that easily fits under most boat seats. A convenient combination fuel pick-up with integrated sight gauge makes it easy to keep tabs on fuel level, while its seamless one-piece polyethylene construction and molded feet provide increased ventilation and stability. The tanks accept standard ¼-inch NPT tank fittings and meet all EPA/CARB emission requirements.
Rapala Y027 Utility Box
MSRP: $15 – $20
Designed for fishing tackle, Rapala’s new Y027 utility box is equally well suited for keeping small, delicate boat bits like digital navigation charts safely stored and protected from the elements. Available in medium (6.75 inches by 4 inches by 2 inches) and small (4.75 inches by 4 inches by 2 inches) sizes, the Y027 box features a completely waterproof seal and Easy Open clear lid compartments.
Fitzgerald Fishing Pliers
MSRP: $29
An incredibly useful tool, these combination pliers feature soft grips which are coated with heat-resistant plastic for a comfortable, non-slip grip even when wet. An integral cutter will snip all sorts of lines or small cables for making emergency repairs, while the jaw’s hooked tip easily opens split rings of almost any size. They even come with a durable Cordura sheath and a lanyard to keep them from falling overboard.
Quarrow Fish Lip Gripper
MSRP: $TBD
The Quarrow portable fish lip gripper puts the grab on fish securely and without harming them, allowing you to remove the hook while protecting your thumb from abrasions and pointy teeth. Available in black, green and pink, the Lip Gripper features durable steel jaws and an ABS plastic body that’s covered with a soft EVA handle for a firm grip and an adjustable lanyard.
Fish-A-Way Hand Soap
MSRP: $5
It’s fun to catch fish, but not so much fun when you continue to smell them on your hands hours later. Fish-A-Way Hand Soap is a bio-engineered, eco-friendly formula that eliminates tough odors at the source, so they don’t return. It’s also effective for removing fuel or oil smells after you gas up or work on the boat. Alcohol-free, it contains Aloe and vitamin E to keep hands from drying out. Its 4.37 fluid ounce bottle is the perfect size for the boat glove box.
