Luxury yacht builder Bertram Yachts has acquired a new 120,000-square-foot manufacturing facility on the Florida Gulf Coast where it will build new yachts and provide service to existing boats.
The new Bertram World Headquarters, located at 5250 West Tyson Avenue in Tampa, is located on Tampa Bay just south or the Gandy Bridge. The facility, which has operated for years under different ownership, offers 40-foot high buildings and an existing fiberglass fabrication setup. Florida Governor Rick Scott said that the new facility will create 140 new jobs while providing a $35 million capital investment in the local community.
The company has already begun construction of a new Bertram 35 on the site, and plans to begin work on the new Bertram 60 there later this year.
Bertram Yachts was founded in 1960 by yacht broker and boat racer Dick Bertram launched his first Bertram 31. Designed to replicate the deep-V hull that smashed records in the 1960 Miami to Nassau Ocean power boat race, the Bertram 31 launched a line of performance and sportfishing boats ranging up to 80 feet would become known for their excellent ride, particularly in unforgiving conditions.
Moving to the Tampa Bay facility will allow Bertram the year-round opportunity to sea trial new hulls and deliver new yachts to customers.
