Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin-based Mercury Marine has announced a new 6.7L diesel engine with mechanical fuel injection.
The new engine is the result of a new partnership between Mercury and Turin, Italy-based FPT Industrial, a division of Fiat Powertrain Technologies. “This partnership with FPT allows Mercury Marine to develop market awareness of the new product’s value proposition in global markets that we don’t have a presence in yet,” said Martin Bass, Mercury Marine vice president of global category management. “This midrange expansion will support the needs of a predominantly commercial markets globally.”
The 6.7L diesel engine, which will be branded Mercury Diesel, is intended to power single-engine sterndrive and inboard boats in the 22- to 30-foot range including both displacement trawlers and commercial vessels like water taxis.
“This agreement is a testimony to FPT Industrial’s recognized technological leadership,” said Annalisa Stupenengo, brand president FPT Industrial. “It further underlines our commitment to the very demanding field of marine applications. We are confident that together we will leverage our respective strengths in product and services to the benefit and satisfaction of our customers.”
Mercury Marine will officially launch the 6.7L midrange engine this fall. It will be available in the marketplace in early 2016.
